Anyhoo, I figured this would be a good place for me to post the things I find online, rather than facebook and would be a good place for me to practice writing. Years of being on the interwebs have assisted in the devolution of my grammar. I no longer remember to use my punctuation, (correctly, even) can not remember how to spell words beyond three syllables, unless they have red lines under them, constantly forget to capitalize, especially "i" & can not figure out how to indent a paragraph with-out going into the paragraph menu or writing html. Isn't there a way to do it on the keyboard? Apples did & typewriters do, but I can not remember on an IBM.
The title of my blog refers to two of my favorite songs. Those of you who know me well enough, know that almost every song is my favorite. After my explaination, I will try to link videos for them, providing I got the hang of this site and there are videos available on youtube, or no.
"Special Pets" by Otep makes an interesting point/counterpoint to Porno for Pyros "Pets". The Otep song is, to me, about consuming a person, in an emotionally vampiric way. The Porno for Pyros song, seems to me, to be decrying the ugliness in humanity, which would include people who use others. Both songs refer people to being pets.
Pets are often more precious to people than other people. I used to have a bumper sticker that read, "Save the humans". I do believe that man (as in mankind, not as the gender) was placed on the Earth to have dominion over animals. This means to care for them, but we also need to care for each other & the planet. I find it funny how some can treat an animal better than other person. I guess the counterpoint to this is this quote attributed to Gandhi;
"You can tell much about a country by the way they treat their animals."
Perhaps this is true.
My last random thought on the subject is in Buddhism, it is believed that pets are the last incarnation before a soul becomes human. They are in the home to observe us, so that they can know how to act in the next life. I think my cats may be set, but I worry about the fish, but Catholics believed they had no souls or feelings, so I guess they'll be ok. Personally, I don't believe in reincarnation, but knowing my luck, my next mother will abort.
